ALEX IZMAILOV - Kayak Instructor I started paddling when I was 6 years old and my paddling technique was put in place by my dad who at the time used to do guided expeditions across the former Soviet Union and a lot of it involved white water river trips. I started playing kayak polo when I was 17 years old, now 9 years later I am one of the top kayak polo players in the US. Our local club in Bay Area (including myself) has won 3 National Champion Titles. I have also participated in 2 Kayak Polo World Championships as a USA Men's Squad Member that were held in 2006 in Amsterdam and in 2008 in Edmonton, Canada. I will again be representing USA in the 2010 Kayak Polo World Championship in Milan, Italy. I also have extensive experience in white water slalom. My kayaking skills are currently at the most advanced level possible, what I try to work on at this point, is fitness and speed. Some of the things that I currently teach are: (For beginners): different stroke techniques, launching, self-rescue (by wet exit), rescuing each other by using a partner, water safety, inspecting equipment, etc. (For intermediate and advanced): advanced maneuvers in a kayak such as pivoting and turning, low and high bracing, sculling, more advanced paddling/correcting strokes. Also how to upright capsized kayaks by using hand roll, paddle roll, and ball roll. IRINE IZMAILOV - Land Activities Instructor I am in charge of organizing the camp dates, accepting new sign ups, arranging meals, and running the dry land activities with the kids. Growing up in San Francisco, I always had to wait for my parents to take me places and could only go out with my friends during the daylight. I suggested to my dance instructor to provide a place for kids to hang out while parents are at work and we started Club 18 in the city. I was on the Teen Council for 5 years, making decisions on projects, trips, organizing dance parties and working the snack bar.
